Leviticus 27:Every Beastly Bit of It!

By igordesu

I had trouble with this one (yeah, big surprise, right?).  I usually try to apply these things in the old testament to our lives today.  After all, God probably is so drastically different in the way that he deals with people today than thousands of years ago.  We are still people.  But you know what?  I could NOT figure this out.  I think I’ve finally got it though.

The chapter is primarily about prices, rules, and regulations when dedicating property to Lord.  I think the key verse is the part where He says that you can’t donate/give a firstborn animal to the Lord because he already owns it.  That kind of put this all into perspective.  God pretty much owns us.  He made us, it’s his universe, and if you don’t like it, boo hoo.  Go cry about it or get over it.  At least He was loving enough to give us freedom of choice.

The other part of this that interests me is the part where the priest is always the one who determines the value of property being dedicated to the Lord.  Think about that for a moment.  Jesus Christ is, essentially, our High Priest, and we our to dedicate our entire to Him.  That means that He determines what is and is not important in our lives.  He owns us.  To be honest, that’s kind of a relief.  I’m glad that I don’t have to deal with that responsibility.  He’s got me covered.
